Kelley Brettell and Clare Ryan (Year 12) competed in the Ashgrove/The Gap district for the Lions Youth of the Year Competition.
They were required to speak for 2 minutes on 2 unseen questions. This is such a difficult task for anyone, but our students answered immediately with well-structured answers that clearly outlined their opinion and reasons for the opinion.
They then delivered 5 minute speeches. Clare’s speech focused on the difficulties modern society has with imperfection. Keeley’s speech used the metaphor of a chessboard, likening modern society to a game where the breadth and depth of experiences and the care of those less fortunate is overlooked in the desire to win.
Both students were outstanding and an absolute credit to MSM and the work of all of their teachers.
Clare Ryan was the overall winner last night and will proceed on to the next round of the competition on Sunday.
