Sergeant Jose Sarmiento from the Queensland Police Force spoke to the Year 7s on the topic of “Cyber Safety” during Pos-Ed on Thursday 1 June. This informative and entertaining presentation armed the students with valuable techniques for ensuring their personal safety online. Particular attention was drawn to the legal age of 13 for setting up online accounts such as Facebook and Instagram.

Sergeant Sarmiento warned our students about the importance of never using a personal photo for any online profiles and only interacting with known friends. Strong key messages were also shared about the damage that can be caused by young women engaging in bullying through social media and the associated legal implications. He reinforced the point that students should say no to bullying on-line and never post a comment that displays disrespect for another person.
