Missions of St Vincent
Membership of this Community Service group provides students with opportunities to channel their generosity, share their talents and learn new ones. It is also a great way of making new friends across all year levels.
Students can involve themselves in service within the local community in various ways.
Here are a few of the ways the Conference has responded to the needs of people within our local and wider communities:
- making wraps and tiny beanies for premature babies at the Mater Mothers Hospital
- visiting and baking cakes and biscuits for residents at local nursing homes
Other ways of being of service are making and writing cards, writing letters to students at a school in East Timor, craft work of various kinds and entertaining at the nursing homes.
Meetings are held regularly during the term, with a monthly get-together after school to celebrate birthdays and focus on the project at hand that month.
In Term 4 each year, the annual Christmas Appeal for the St Vincent de Paul Society is organised. Toiletries are collected to make gift parcels for the local parishes to distribute
Being involved in one of the Community Service groups is an excellent way of developing leadership skills as well as having fun while helping to make the lives of others a little better.
Students who have a talent that they would be willing to share or who would like to learn a new skill and make new friends, should consider joining one of the groups at the College.
