Our Ash Wednesday liturgy this morning was appropriately solemn and respectful. As a community, we commence our Lenten journey and our commitment to work ‘For a Just Future’ in our support of Caritas.
Thank you for the overwhelming response that we had to ticket sales for this event.
We are now looking to make sure we have a hugely successful event and need the help of many in our community in various areas e.g. baking, sandwich making, setting up and “Dad’s Army” service.
If you are able to help us out for this event, could you please email Jenny Kemp at firstname.lastname@example.org with
what your preference would be.
Ms Madonna McGahan, the Group Director Mission at Mater Health, led an after school session with Year 12 SOR students to guide our students through the challenging issues underpinning their upcoming Bioethics Ethnographic Study. Well done to the sixty one students who turned up for this enlightening and illuminating educational opportunity.
On February 10, the Queensland Fencing Association (QFA) held their annual awards dinner to celebrate the achievements of the State’s fencing community.
We are very happy to announce that Amelie Wilson (Year 9) won 1st place for U13 Women’s Foil for 2017. She also achieved 3rd place ranking in U15 and U17 Women’s Foil. These rankings are based on points earned by competing in QFA events during the year that range from school and age group through to open level competitions.
Amelie also won the award for QFA best newcomer of the year as this was her first full year of competition. This result was also a fantastic achievement for her as there is a strong pool of very talented new fencers coming out of the Brisbane fencing clubs. Well done Amelie!
Our Opening Eucharist and Commissioning of Student Leaders took place at the Sophia Centre this morning.
Fr. Marty Larsen from Jubilee Parish celebrated mass with us and it was a wonderfully affirming and spiritually enriching experience for all members of our community.
Congratulations to Zoe Campbell (7C) who was successful in gaining selection for the North West District U12 Basketball team which will compete at the Met North carnival next month.
