Work Experience with Dr Carolyn Brown

Over the last week Maggie Dale (Year 12) has been completing work experience with Dr Carolyn Brown and the Astrophysics Department at the University of Southern Queensland. Maggie was given a research project to complete as well as the task of coordinating a public astronomy night to help promote the department and the university.

Maggie’s research project involved analysing data related to the detection of exoplanets and her work will be used by the department as part of larger research projects. Her public astronomy event is currently scheduled for the 9th July. As a special treat for the end of Maggie’s work experience, Dr Brown set up the telescope with special white light, and hydrogen alpha filters to do some solar observation.
