A warm welcome to students and parents of Year 7 2020. It is our pleasure to share with you the Mt St Michael’s College 2020 Orientation Guide; a guide to assist new families find important information about the College with ease.

- Arrive at Mt St Michael's College no later than 8.15am.
- Assemble outside M block. Home Room allocations will be displayed on the Grantuly veranda and M block classrooms. Staff and students will be available to assist with locating homerooms.
- Wear your full day uniform including College hat and name tag from Orientation Day.
- Bring your Mt St Michael's College tote bag, a water bottle, note pad and pencil case.
- The Kaf will be open for morning tea and lunch or alternatively bring your own.
- The Library will be open before and after school.Term time opening hours are 7.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 4.00pm on Friday.
Students will be issued with the following items:
- 2020 Diary
- 2020 College Calendar
- Student Timetable
- Lock for locker
- The College day commences at 8.35am when students move to their homeroom for administration and roll marking.
- School finishes at 3.05pm.
Correspondence from the College will be forwarded to the person listed on the Enrolment Application form as the correspondence address. In the case of separated parents, Academic Reports and School Fees will be forwarded to both parents unless specified in court orders.
The Mt St Michael’s College newsletter ‘The Spirit’ is published fortnightly during term time and is distributed to our parent community via email. Past and current newsletters can be found on the College App and on our website. The Spirit is an important communication tool for the College, and we encourage all parents to read each edition to keep informed about news and events that are directly related to MSM.
The College App
The College App is a very important tool for our community and is one of the main communication channels used by the Sports Department for trials, wet day cancellations and practice information. Equally, you will find information from our music and arts departments, including practice information and events.
The App is the 'go to place' to find important links such as Parent Lounge and recent newsletters, and information about P&F and Alumni events. Important news is also sent out via a push alert notification to our App subscribers.
Details on how to download the College App can be found below. It is important to update your College App subscription to ensure you receive the correct notifications for your area(s) of interest in addition to updating your daughter’s year level as she progresses through the College.
It is also important to update your subscription to ensure that you don’t become overwhelmed with message notifications. To manage your subscriptions, select ‘settings’ (via the ‘cog like’ symbol found at the bottom right of your home screen) and then select ‘subscriptions’ that interest you or relate to your child.
At MSM we are working towards ensuring our App becomes a one-stop shop for all important communications, notices and reminders.
The Pastoral Leaders Wellbeing Newsletter is distributed to all parents in Week 3 of each term and towards the end of term, with the exception of Term 4 where only one newsletter is published. Each Pastoral Leader provides valuable information for parents which delivers an overview of happenings in the year level they support. In addition, our College Psychologists provide relevant advice and support to our parent community as well as ensuring each child at MSM has all the necessary care in place.
Mobile Phone Use
Mobile phones (and smart watches) are permitted on College campus before and after school only but must be placed in lockers at 8.30am prior to Home Room. Mobile phones (and smart watches) must not be taken to classes or carried around in pockets/bags. The only exception is teacher direction for mobile phones to be brought to class for educational purposes.
At certain times throughout the year, our students may have the opportunity to be photographed or filmed for our school publications, such as the school newsletter, website, social media or to promote the College in newspapers and other media.
Mt St Michael’s College may also wish to use student photographs/videos in print and online promotion, marketing, media and educational materials. For privacy purposes, we need to ensure that we have your full permission to use your daughter’s photograph/video for the above purposes. Parent Lounge is the College’s interactive web-based portal. Parent Lounge allows parents and guardians to view information about their daughter online. This is a secure, password protected site and allows access to information such as:
- Student Details
- Extra-Curricular information
- Student Results
- Student Timetable
- Current Medical Information
- Excursion information and approval
- Online payment facility for College fees
You also have the capability of undertaking online searches for information such as Attendance, Student Results and Comments. Lists of your daughter's teachers’ email addresses are available, either individually or as a group, to facilitate communication with the College.
This is an exciting development and one which will allow the parents of Mt St Michael’s College students the ability to keep up to date with their daughter's activities.
Individual access details will be provided to families during the first week of Term 1.
Fees are charged each term and are payable within 14 days of the date of issue. Strict adherence to payment is expected and extensions will only be granted in exceptional circumstances. Retreats and levies will be charged through term accounts. Payments may be made by Credit Card, Cheque or Direct Debit.
The Kaf, the College café, operates on a daily basis during the academic year for breakfast, morning tea and lunch.
The provision of contemporary food and drinks that are fresh and of high quality for our students, staff and guests is at the core of the operation. Café volunteers are always welcome and The Kaf staff would love to meet you. Volunteering is not only a positive method of assisting but also a great way to meet new friends and catch up with school happenings.

To minimise the amount of cash that is brought to school the College has introduced a Student Debit Account System for use in The Kaf. The flexischools account allows students to use their school ID card as a debit card to make purchase at The Kaf. Through the flexischools account parents can view purchases, set spending limits and top up the balance.
Online orders can be placed for morning tea and lunch up to 8.30am on the morning required.
Set Up Your Account
Setting up an account for either Online Ordering or Card Payments is done online and only takes a minute. Each card can only be registered to one account. Simply go to www.flexischools.com.au and click “Register Now”. You will be sent an email with further instructions on how to complete the registration. Once registered, you can start placing orders immediately, or can activate the card payments by entering your
student’s card number that matches your daughter’s “Alternate ID”. This number is not printed on the card but can be found in Parent Lounge under ‘Student Details’ then scroll down to ‘General Details’ option and the card number will appear in the field noted as ‘Alternate ID’. If you have more than one daughter enrolled you need to change the student selection from the drop down option to the right of your screen. Then select ‘General Details’ and the card number will be listed under the field ‘Alternate ID’ for each student.
The system operates via a pre-paid account, so you can easily budget for your spending throughout the term. There are a variety of payment options supported, including Visa, Mastercard (credit and debit), Bank Transfer and Payclick. Some top-up methods have fees or restrictions – please check online for details. Payments using bank transfers may take up to three days for the balance to reach the account.
What does it cost?
There is no cost for setting up your account and no monthly account fee. If you have any questions, FlexiSchools provide a great help desk on 1300 361 769, or you can contact them via their website.
Lost ID cards
If a ID card becomes lost or misplaced, please call Flexischools on 1300 361 769 as soon as possible to place a hold on the account.
Replacement ID cards can be purchased via the MSM IT Support office for $8 each.
College uniforms can be purchased from the Uniform Shop, conveniently located on the College grounds in the main courtyard beside the Wellbeing Centre.
Below you will find a link to the College Uniform Shop information page which details trading times and current prices. Parents are asked to note the additional trading hours set for early January 2020 to allow for ease of purchase during what is normally a very busy period.
Payments can be made using cash, cheque, EFTPOS and Credit Card (Visa and Mastercard only). For convenience, parents may opt to establish an account for their daughters to make further uniform purchases during the year. Fitting Times by Appointment
At the end of Term 3, the College sent an email to 2020 Year 7 parents advising that The Uniform Shop will run fitting times in November and December by appointment for new families. If you have not booked a fitting time for the dates outlined in the email, we ask that you take the time to make a booking. This will help to alleviate pressure on Uniform Shop staff during the back to school rush period.
This individual appointment will allow your daughter/s to be fitted carefully without the busy crowds that occur in January. Each appointment will be 30 minutes (starting on the hour and half hour) which is more than enough time to have all required uniform fitted.
The provided times fill quickly so new families are strongly encouraged to book their appointment early by contacting the Uniform Shop directly on email at email@example.com.

The College has a very attractive uniform that our students wear with pride and which clearly indicates that a student is a member of our community. We have an expectation that all students will wear the correct uniform at all times and we ask for parental support in ensuring that this occurs.
The formal College uniform is worn 5 days a week. All articles of clothing are to be clearly marked with your daughter’s name. The College does not accept any responsibility for lost property.

The sports uniform is not to be worn to or from school and the formal College uniform is to be worn on College excursions.
It is compulsory for all new students to purchase a MSM school bag from the College Uniform Shop. There is a choice of backpack or carry bag.

Mt St Michael’s College textbooks are online and interactive. Digital textbook lists, and guidelines for ordering online textbooks for the new school year, are published on the College website around mid-November of Term 4. Parents can access and order online texts directly through our contracted supplier which then become available to the student on their first day of the new school year.

Stationery: Stationery orders are now open and can be purchased online through our supplier ‘Sequel School and Office Supplies’ via https://www.sequelbooks.com/mt-st-michaels-year-7-2020. Please CLICK HERE to read a letter from our supplier on how to purchase your online stationery.
Calculators: Calculators are not part of the stationery pack and will need to be purchased separately through Abacus Calculators via https://www.abacuscalculators.com.au. Please CLICK HERE to read a letter on how to purchase your child's calculator.
Textbooks: Textbooks are now available for purchase through our supplier, ‘Box of Books’. To order, Parents/Guardians must first create an online account, then add the student information. To purchase the required books, simply nominate the student's Year group and school then select from an automated prefilled list. PLEASE NOTE: As Year 7 2020 students will not be allocated a school email until 2020, please use the school name option instead of entering the student's email address.
Hard copies purchased will be sent within a few days of purchase. Online books will become available to your daughter on the first day of school in 2020. Students will be able to access their Digital Books by visiting:https://msm-college.boxofbooks.io and using their school email credentials to sign in.

Welcome Assembly & Morning Tea - 8.35am, Wednesday 29 January
MSM welcomes you to join our Welcome Assembly followed by a morning tea hosted by our P&F Association. The Welcome Assembly takes approximately 1 hour.
Year 7 Parent Information & Tablet Distribution (Compulsory) - 2.00pm, Wednesday 29 January
Year 7 parents are expected to attend this event held in the Sophia Centre.
Year 7 Father Daughter Breakfast – 6.45am arrival for 7:00am start, Thursday 6 February
This year we are keen to see if our 2020 Year 7 dads and daughters can keep up the 'high attendance rate' tradition for this event. In 2019, EVERY Year 7 dad and daughter attended this event!
Year 7 Parent Welcome to MSM Evening - 6.00pm Friday 14 February
Hosted by the P&F Association, MSM welcome all Year 7 parents to this enjoyable event, providing a great opportunity for our Year 7 parent community to meet fellow parents over a drink and bite to eat.
Students are expected to attend school every day during Term time. For your future information, please note the College policy in relation to student absences, school work and assessments due to vacations.
Attendance at school is crucial for your daughter’s development. Please keep this in mind when organising family holidays. If for any reason your daughter is required to be absent from school for a period of time, other than medical or dental appointments, our policy states that you write to the Principal requesting leave for your daughter prior to arrangements being made. When requesting leave, please include your daughter’s full name, year level and home room in the letter.
It is important to note, request for leave from the Principal is only for extended periods of absence, and not for short periods of absence such as medical appointments or sport representation.
Please refer to the Administration section of the student diary for further information regarding student absences.
If your daughter will be using public transport services it may be beneficial to take your daughter on a practice run during the holidays so that she is aware of the schedule and requirements.
Bus information on services can be obtained through TRANSLINK on 131 230 or Internet www.translink.com.au. Detailed information on bus routes and timetables is available through Ward Offices and Municipal Libraries.
Friday 7 February (after school) to Sunday 9 February 2020 (lunch time) at Duchesne College UQ, St Lucia
MSM Music Camp 2020 is held at the end of Week 2 and provides a musical kick-start to the year of music making, and concludes with a short concert on the Sunday. It is an opportunity for enjoyment, education and community building amongst the music students, teachers and parents of the College.
Information about Music Camp
Music camp information for 2020 is distributed in Term 4 2019 to current Co-curricular Music students and to incoming 2020 Year 7 students. Acceptance and payment of $185 for Music Camp 2020 will be required before the end of 2019 to confirm numbers.
